West Orange, NJ — Jordan Grafman, PhD, director of Traumatic Brain Injury Research at Kessler Foundation, is an invited speaker at The 2nd Annual Traumatic Brain Injury Conference on March 6, 2012, in Washington, DC. Dr. Grafman will describe the long-term cognitive and social consequences of traumatic brain injury. A well known expert, he will focus on his research on the influence of the location of brain injury and genetic polymorphisms on social abilities and quality of life.
The Conference will be held March 6-7 at the Crowne Plaza Old Town Alexandria in Alexandria, VA. The theme is challenges and opportunities in preclinical and clinical development of new diagnostics and therapeutics. Dr. Grafman is one of a panel of noted researchers from the international community of brain injury experts, including presenters from academia, the government, the military and industry.
Research into neuroplasticity shows that the brain has greater capacity for healing than previously thought.

Burbank High’s towering Pope brothers are an imposing collection of size and talent, and three reasons why the No. 7 Titans have big ambitions this season.
Senior Remle, who just turned 19, is 6-foot-4 and 195 pounds of imposing muscle and physicality he played football for Burbank as a middle linebacker as a junior.
Senior Emmanuel, who turns 18 today, is the Titans’ wispy 6-5, 170-pound power forward who uses his quick feet and leaping ability to make up for his slender frame.
Sophomore Malik, 15, is already 6-7 make that 6-9 if you include his throwback hairstyle think Kid from Kid ‘n Play and the most polished of the three. Blessed with supersized mitts and outsized athletic ability, he can play any position on the floor.
“They’re athletic as all get-out, but with different strengths and personalities,” says Burbank coach Lindsey Ferrell.
Nicole Pope knows what she’s going to get from her sons on game day: The excitement of watching her boys playing together on the same team for the first time and the challenge of trying to soothe bruised egos afterward.
“It’s a blessing, exciting, rewarding and tiring,” says Nicole, who is putting her studies in psychology at Cosumnes River College to good use.

A 72-year-old man died after being involved in a single-vehicle crash with a tree in Willmar, Minn. Tuesday afternoon.
According to the police department, Wayne Lyle Chadwick, of Brooten, Minn., was found in cardiac arrest when authorities responded to the crash.
Chadwick was driving a 1995 Chevrolet GMT pickup truck along 19th Avenue Southwest when he crashed into a tree near 19th Avenue Southwest and 11th Street Southwest.
Authorities said the crash happened at about 3 p.m.

Looking to assert themselves at home, the Philadelphia Flyers started off with one of their best all-around games of the season.
Sean Couturier had a short-handed goal to lead a balanced scoring attack and the Flyers beat the Minnesota Wild 5-1 on Tuesday night.
Kimmo Timonen, Scott Hartnell, Braydon Coburn and Jakub Voracek also had goals and Jaromir Jagr had two assists for the Flyers, who got points from 12 players.
Every line was cycling, every line was getting shots, it was a big win, Hartnell said.
The Flyers began a stretch of 11 of 15 games at home after playing 20 of 29 on the road. They improved to 11-6-2 at the Wells Fargo Center.
We wanted to come out hard, Timonen said. Our home record has not been where we want it. We wanted to play a full 60 minutes and show where our attitude is.
Darroll Powe scored against his former team for Minnesotas goal.
Ilya Bryzgalov made 25 saves to earn the win, a day after coach Peter Laviolette reiterated hes the No.
