I guess you could say that the Stanford Biodesign Program “wrote the book” on how to teach medical technology innovation to multidisciplinary teams. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently acknowledged the effectiveness of this training program by signing a “memorandum of understanding with Stanford, which I discuss in todays Inside Stanford Medicine.

The agreement lays the groundwork for the FDA and Stanford to collaborate on a number of initiatives, including educational outreach, cross-training of scientific personnel, and the development of new biostatistical methods for more accurately evaluating the safety of emerging medical technologies.

The biodesign program, which is in its 11th year, trains teams of doctors, engineers and business students — in an intensive one-year program — to identify a medical need, develop an invention to fill it, create a business plan, navigate the regulatory process, then present their inventions to venture capitalists. Since its inc

Running your own business requires learning a great deal of things on a wide range of topics over a very short time—you’ll be hard pressed to find anyone else who can formulate marketing plans while checking over the accounts and using social media to stay in touch with customers.

There are some elements of business which can be hugely difficult to understand. And in order to ensure you get them right, it can be beneficial to use a professional.

A broker is one of these professions. Brokers are usually involved in the buying and selling of businesses, an area which requires a great deal of expertise and knowledge. If you’ve got some free time and an interest in the area, it isn’t impossible to learn yourself, but for those who just don’t have enough hours in the day, hiring a broker is an ideal solution.

Taxpayers may obtain representation before the IRS by a registered tax return preparer concerning returns the RTRP prepared. The Declaration of Taxpayer Rights states that individuals have this right for a professional to represent them in IRS matters. Unfortunately, IRS authority also governs every RTRP practice.

This presents a subtle balancing act for tax preparers. The IRS can sanction any professional with a tax preparer license. That presents some reservation in how aggressive an RTRP defends a taxpayer. The tax professional must possess complete assurance that deducted expenses are legitimate. Otherwise, the IRS is likely to sanction a tax preparer who submits client information without substantiation.

The IRS Office of Professional Responsibility is the department charged with administering activities in the tax preparation business. OPR has a staff of 58 employees. They investigate complaints about the conduct of tax practitioners. Several punishments are available for OPR to implement.

A new exhibition at the county Record Office tells the story of the census.

The displays include the history of the census, the original of which dates back to Biblical times.

Items on show include the entry by county celebrities including the Elephant Man, Joseph Merrick, who filled out his census form in Leicester in 1871 at the age of 18.

The free exhibition is being held to coincide with the latest release of census records from 1911 which are due to be released this month.

Jenny Moran, manager of public services at the Record Office in Long Street, Wigston, said the information would be of use to anyone researching their family history, or who wanted to know more about their area.

She added: “All census information is closed for 100 years so every 10 years we get some new records.

“A lot of people use the records to find out about their family trees and the history of their communities and there’s a lot of interest in census information now.

“People can now go online and pay to view the records from 1911.”

The exhibition will be based in the foyer of the county record office.

Visitors can also see census information held at the offices which date from 1841 to 1901.

Expert librarians will be on hand to help people find the information they are looking for.

Visitors can also use the record office computers to pay to look at the 1911 data, which is available online at websites including:

Looking to assert themselves at home, the Philadelphia Flyers started off with one of their best all-around games of the season.

Sean Couturier had a short-handed goal to lead a balanced scoring attack and the Flyers beat the Minnesota Wild 5-1 on Tuesday night.

Kimmo Timonen, Scott Hartnell, Braydon Coburn and Jakub Voracek also had goals and Jaromir Jagr had two assists for the Flyers, who got points from 12 players.

Every line was cycling, every line was getting shots, it was a big win, Hartnell said.

The Flyers began a stretch of 11 of 15 games at home after playing 20 of 29 on the road. They improved to 11-6-2 at the Wells Fargo Center.

We wanted to come out hard, Timonen said. Our home record has not been where we want it. We wanted to play a full 60 minutes and show where our attitude is.

Darroll Powe scored against his former team for Minnesotas goal.

Ilya Bryzgalov made 25 saves to earn the win, a day after coach Peter Laviolette reiterated hes the No.
